The company Storm plans and implements customer-specific surface treatment systems for the fully automated processing of steel and metal semi-finished products. We place particular emphasis on a consistent, process-oriented design – both for new installations and in the context of expansions and modernizations.
The installations consist of modular treatment stations and highly automated transport systems. After the workpieces – such as wire coils – have been loaded by the operating personnel, an automated crane system takes over the transport into the fenced-off system area. From there, the fully program-controlled transport through the defined process stages such as cleaning, pickling, activating, phosphating, and coating takes place. The treatment duration is determined precisely by the specifications stored in the control system.
The centerpiece of our surface treatment systems is the crane system – a technically sophisticated in-house development. The double-girder overhead cranes utilized are specially designed to meet the requirements of wire treatment. With a load capacity of up to 5 tons (payload) and highly precise, frequency-controlled travel and hoist technology, they guarantee a reliable and repeatable material flow. The crane systems consist of two main girders with end girders, a lifting frame including lifting column and rope drum, as well as comprehensive safety equipment. Guide rollers, laser distance measurement and digital limit switches ensure precise positioning and safe operation, even in complex hall layouts. The load handling is performed via a specially developed locking crossbeam that automatically detects, locks, and monitors the C-hooks. Multi-stage safety devices such as proximity switches and magnetic sensors ensure a controlled and safe lifting process at all times. The entire crane control is performed via two separate control cabinet units, networked via a fiber-optic connection and fully integrated into the central system control.
To ensure a flexible and secure supply of media, the installations are equipped with permanently installed tank storage systems, pumping and piping systems. Chemicals and process media are supplied automatically, stored with the utmost care, and handled in accordance with legal requirements. Safety features such as access control, emergency shutdowns and automatic monitoring systems are also an integral part of our planning.
The entire automated system area is surrounded by a guarding system. Access is provided via secured doors with appropriate safety contacts. The operating and unloading station is ergonomically designed and prepared for seamless integration into existing logistics processes.
Furthermore, Storm offers the possibility for the integration of modern measurement technology for process monitoring and quality assurance. Our range of services also includes energy-efficient components, smart control solutions, and digital interfaces for higher-level operational management.
Surface treatment reimagined – automated, precise, future-proof.
Each system is individually tailored to the customer’s production environment – including the design of the bath capacities, the selection of materials, the transport logic, and the automation concept. This results in durable, easy-to-maintain, and high-performance systems that operate reliably and in conformity with regulations.

Our systems consist of modular treatment stations and highly automated transport systems. After manual loading – e.g., of wire coils – the transport is handled by an automated crane system into the guarded system area. There, the program-guided transport takes place through the individual process stages such as cleaning, pickling, activating, phosphating, and coating. The control system ensures precise adherence to treatment times and guarantees reproducible results.

Our specially developed crane system is the central element of our material logistics. The double-girder overhead cranes are attuned to the requirements of wire treatment and offer a lifting capacity of up to 5 tons. Frequency-controlled travel and hoist technology, laser distance measurement and digital limit switches enable precise positioning – even in complex hall layouts. The load handling is performed via an intelligent locking crossbeam that automatically detects and secures the C-hooks. Multi-stage safety devices ensure controlled and safe operation.
